Sultanpur (UP), Oct 30 (PTI) Police have registered a case against 14 DJ operators and several unidentified persons here for allegedly violating Supreme Court directives on noise pollution during a Durga Puja idol immersion procession, officials said on Friday.

The case was registered on Thursday night at Kotwali Nagar police station on a complaint by Shahganj police outpost in-charge Avinash Chandra.

Inspector Suresh Narayan Mishra said DJ operators from Sultanpur and neighbouring districts had been instructed by the district administration to comply with the Supreme Court’s guidelines on noise levels. However, several operators allegedly violated the directions despite prior warnings.

A case has been registered under Sections 223 (disobedience of an order by a public servant) and 292 (public nuisance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules and the Environment (Protection) Act. Legal proceedings are underway, Mishra said.

The inspector added that despite police warnings, the organisers and DJ operators continued playing loud music during public functions held recently, causing inconvenience to the sick, elderly people and newborn children. PTI COR CDN SKY
